Peace Mountain Lodge & The Bearicuda Cans

by admin on October 5, 2010

We have a 5 bedroom 5 and half bath home in the mountains of Western NC in the beautiful community of Cashiers.  A house that size generates a lot of trash and our close proximity to a Federal Preserve where the bears are plentiful and protected, means we get lots of encounters with the bears seeking food in our Trash containers.

The bears have become so accustomed to rummaging through our garbage they no longer seek food from nature.  This is unhealthy for the bears and creates a situation where the bears see “us” as their food source.   They no longer run when you make loud noises, sound a horn, or even fire a gun in the air.    They just walk to the garbage and see what’s on the menu for the day.

After countless hours of picking up garbage up and down the mountain strewn about by the bears and raccoons, we decided to by a

Bearicuda 95 gallon bear resistent container.   Upon arrival I chained the container securely to a tree so the bears would drag it off into the woods.    We have not had one instance of the bears getting into the Bearicuda.   We do have scratches, bite marks and muddy claw prints all over it where they’ve tried over and over again to gain access.  But so far they’ve had to move on elsewhere to get their food.  I’m thinking that soon we will be dropped from the bears “route” for food.

Thus I’m not picking up garbage everyday any longer.  Thank you Bearicuda for making a product the functions exactly as advertised.  Also your speedy delivery was greatly appreciated.   By the way, thank you Kevin for spending so much time with me over the phone selecting the right can, I must have drove you nuts! We will be telling all of our neighbors about your product.

Best Regards,
